Flinders Bank Project Announced
Situated at 7-23 Spencer Street, adjacent to Batman Park and bounded at the northern end by Flinders Street, the 4,500 sqm site used to house the former Melbourne Convention Centre, which was demolished in 2016. Its prime location offers immediate proximity to the Melbourne CBD, Southbank, Docklands and Southern Cross Station, plus direct views over the Yarra River.
The project comprises three towers: two of equal height (26 levels), linked by an open-air retail plaza along Siddeley Street which will be open to the public, and a third tower of 33 levels. In total, Flinders Bank will incorporate 500 high-end 1, 2 and 3 bedroom apartments, 167 five-star hotel rooms, and 2,100 sqm of retail and commercial, with a focus on food and health retail. The three towers are to be constructed simultaneously, commencing in early 2019 and reaching completion in approximately mid 2021.
Fender Katsalidis designed the three-tower, mixed use development in a terraced form to reduce overshadowing on the Yarra. The curvaceous, rippling design of the structures mimics the flow of water. Amenities will include a pool pavilion, courtyard and outdoor terrace, wine storage and tasting room, concierge, gymnasium, sauna, steam room, meeting rooms and 447 car spaces.
