Gen Fyansford x Rone
Renowned Australian street artist Rone is Geelong born and bred. So it was fitting that he was commissioned to paint his signature large-scale faces on the three unused cement silos overlooking the Gen Fyansford site.
Works are already well underway, with Rone working most days (weather permitting) on the silos. During daylight hours, you can witness him in action from a custom viewing platform accessible from the Hyland Street footpath. The scale of the artworks can be realised through the comparison of the boom lift that Rone is standing in to reach the silos.
As at 14 December 2017 the middle silo is already complete, featuring Rone's depiction of Cor Horsten, a 78-year-old local who contributed 35 years working at the cement silos. The other two silos will feature Australian Paralympian Kelly Cartwright, and Wadawurrung descendent Corrina Eccles.
The silo artworks should be complete by Christmas and have already garnered a very positive response from locals, with some reporting they are able to see the new artworks from long distances. Although privately funded, the Geelong Council has approved and fully supports the public artworks, as they contribute to the creative prestige of the region.
